Your folds, calls and raises shape results over many hands, but no decision removes chance from a single hand, and rake is paid either way. How to play poker: a Texas Hold'em hand step by step
Texas Hold'em is the game Lagos card rooms list by name: Federal Palace runs Hold'Em Poker tables and Elucid Poker House deals No-Limit Hold'em. Learn one hand in order, then check each table's game and stakes in the 1win Poker lobby.
- Post the small and big blindsThe two players left of the dealer button put in these forced bets, so every hand starts with a pot.
- Act on your two hole cardsEveryone gets two private cards. From the seat left of the big blind, each player folds, calls or raises.
- Bet again after the flopThree shared cards go face up, and players still in the hand check, bet, call, raise or fold.
- Play the turn and the riverA fourth shared card comes, then a fifth, each with its own betting round.
- Show down the best five-card handUse any mix of your two cards and the five on the board. If everyone else folds first, the last player left takes the pot without showing.
Table names carry the game and the limit. NLH is No-Limit Hold'em: you can bet all your chips at any turn. PLO is Pot-Limit Omaha, a separate game with four hole cards, exactly two of which you must use, and bets capped at the size of the pot.
Poker hand rankings from royal flush to high card
A higher hand type beats any lower one. When two players hold the same type, the higher cards decide, and an exact tie splits the pot. Suits never break a tie in Hold'em.

Outside the FCT, gaming is licensed by state regulators: the Lagos LSLGA register listed one poker licence on 16 September 2026, and the Oyo State Gaming Board licenses casinos and other gaming. Federal Palace in Lagos, a hotel casino, runs Hold'Em Poker tables. The legal gambling age in Nigeria is 18.
